Baan Sukhawadee Mansion
Upon
arriving from
Bangkok to Pattaya, visitors
will see the Sukhawadee Mansion on the right
side of Sukhumvit Road. It is actually a
very difficult structure to miss. If
anything else, Baan Sukhawadee Mansion was
meant to be noticed.
Built out of the generosity of a rich and
powerful private citizen, a businessman who
owned the Saha Chicken Farms, the Baan
Sukhawadee Mansion was purposed as a legacy
to the Thai Kingdom.
And there is no other
legacy such as Baan Sukhawadee Mansion be
found anywhere else in the country.
On first sight, the hues of the building
might appear a tad garish to visitors. But
upon closer inspection, you cannot help but
admire the clever way in which pastel colors
were employed to harmonize the different
parts of the mansion. There are also areas
in the structure wherein harmony of color is
sacrificed for more bold use of it. For some
inexplicable reason, it all seems to come
together at Baan Sukhawadee.
Within mansion, nothing was spared in terms
of quality in the ornamentation. Although
cameras are allowed inside, there are
certain areas wherein the taking of pictures
is not allowed.
A Chinese figure symbolizing a “bringer of
good fortune” is found on top of one of the
roof tops of the buildings. It makes for an
interesting feature and further aids in
making the Baan Sukhawadee Mansion
a memorable place indeed.
