Singapore City
A
general misconception about the country of
Singapore is that it is made up of one
island when in fact sixty three islets
surround its main island. The total land
area of the main island is 682 square
kilometers.
Don’t be fooled, however, by its small size.
Its economy matches that of any other first
world country.
In just over a hundred
years, Singapore has developed into a
booming centre of industry and commerce. Its
prior role as a port of entry has lessened,
as the country has intensified its base for
manufacturing.
The world’s busiest port, Singapore has more
than six hundred shipping lines which send
container ships, super tankers, and luxury
liners alongside wooden lighters and coastal
fishing boats.
A major oil refining and distribution center
in the world, Singapore is also major
manufacturer of electronic goods and
foremost in repairing and shipbuilding. It
is also one of Asia’s most significant
centers for banking with over a hundred
banks. Singapore boasts of a world-class
network of communications which connects the
country with other countries through
satellite, telephone,
and all-day telegraph
systems. This is the mode upon which
business transactions are made possible.
The county’s excellent facilities, strategic
location, tourist attractions, and
intriguing contrasts in cultural all
contribute to Singapore’s success as a prime
destination for both pleasure and business.
