Shanghai City
Known
to the western world as the City of
Shanghai, it is locally known as “Shen” or
"Hu". Shanghai is located in the center of
the eastern coast of China. It spans over
six thousand kilometers of land, over five
hundred of which is now occupied by the
Pudong New Area. It currently has a total
population of over sixteen million
residents. The climate in the city is
pleasant and it enjoys 4 distinct seasons.
On the coast, Shanghai is an open city and
China’s leading port. It is famous as a city
of culture and history, probably because it
is a gate to the famous Yellow River
(Yangtze River) delta. It is a city directly
under the jurisdiction of the Central
Government and is the largest center of
trade and economic in the country as well as
a comprehensive base of industry.
Shanghai is famous globally not just for its
financially rich cosmopolitan aspect but
also for its abundant humanistic reserves.
In current history, several modem buildings
have risen in the city, such as the Shanghai
Museum, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the
Shanghai Library, the Shanghai Grand
Theatre, the Shanghai Stadium, the Shanghai
City-Planning Exhibition Hall, the Shanghai
Circus City, the Shanghai Science &
Technology Museum, and the Jin Mao Tower.
These buildings have added to the Shanghai
scenic sights.
